Among the pairs of lovers we meet in Random Magic, Callie and Nevermore are perhaps the most memorable, from a book blogging point of view, for being by far the most bookish.
Callie – a nickname, in the book, for her full name of Calliope – is the first and most literary of the Nine Muses, and one of her favorite things is her infinite library.
Yes, “infinite” is quite literal, in this case; as an immortal, she’s known every author ever born and every author who ever will be.
So, for this tour stop on Random Magic: Vive L’Amour, we’d like to share some romantic picks related to books and paper and art – all kinds of wonderful and bookish things, the sort you’d be most likely to find within Callie’s vast and beautiful sanctuary.
Here are five great picks for the sweetest vintage Valentine’s Day cards, and five quotes about love.
Quote from Random Magic:
“Isn’t it romantic?” Effie sighed, and turned another slow, dreamy backflip through the air. “The impetuous flight of passion, the tormenting blade of unreason, the giddy transports of love enthroned, the–”
“More like a goat dancing with an angry bee,” the centaur observed acidly.

BONUS: Sweet treat – Classic love poem

“All for Love” by George Gordon, Lord Byron*
O Fame! if I e’er took delight in thy praises,
‘Twas less for the sake of thy high-sounding phrases,
Than to see the bright eyes of the dear one discover
She thought that I was not unworthy to love her…
Her glance was the best of the rays that surround thee;
When it sparkled o’er aught that was bright in my story,
I knew it was love, and I felt it was glory.
* By the way, Lord Byron appears as a character in Random Magic.

I love this quote, “We waste time looking for the perfect lover, instead of creating the perfect love.” That is so perfect and true. It’s so true that it almost lacks any romance whatsoever, but I love it anyway.
Great post and thanks for the loveliness!

I like this one, it makes you think: To love is to admire with the heart; to admire is to love with the mind”
